The Westmed “Super Spike” Pediatric Nebulizer is a cute cartoon character aerosol mask for kids.
This puppy’s goal in life is to get kids to relax, wear the mask, and take their aerosol medication treatments.
But Super Spike isn’t just cute, he’s got a serious mission. Spike has an expiratory port located under the child’s mouth to help direct exhaled and escaped aerosol away from the eyes.
This is especially important in kids when they are receiving treatments with either aerosolized anticholinergics such as ipratropium (Atrovent) or tiotropium (Spiriva) or a corticosteroid such as budesonide (Pulmicort Respules). But even when those drugs are not being given, Super Spike may be just the enticement needed to get toddlers to use the mask.
Super Spike’s 22 mm OD swivel elbow connector can be attached to aerosol tubing or small volume nebulizers to allow treatments in many different positions.
